What Should You Consider When Choosing a Workers’ Compensation Attorney?

First, and foremost, make sure your attorney has honest empathy for your situation.  How do you know?  Think about how you feel after your first conversation with the law firm you call.  Did you feel like the person on the other end truly cared about what you were saying?  Did you feel empathy from them?  If not, keep looking.

Second, make sure the law firm has more than just a receptionist and an attorney.  When I first started practicing I thought I could do everything.  I answered the phone, drafted all my documents, paid the bills, did my own marketing, and fought every case by myself.  I thought I was best serving my clients by handling everything myself.  I have learned that this could not be further from the truth.

Third, make sure the law firm you are considering does not try to handle every type of legal matter that walks through the door.  Again, this is a mistake I made early in my career.  I handled business law, criminal defense, personal injury, family law, bankruptcy, construction law, lemon law, and other matters.  I was a jack of all trades in the legal world.  Again, my flawed ego told me I could be all things for all people in need.  I know better now.  The good thing about this mistake, is that I learned a lot about many areas of the law.  No one legal issue exists in a vacuum.  So it’s good for a lawyer to know about many areas of the law even if they focus on only one.
