First, what are we talking about here? Within the state of Mississippi, and all other states, there are people who work for the federal government. A few examples are Natchez Trace employees, federal courthouse workers, federal bureau of prison workers, and postal workers. If these workers get hurt at work, what does that mean for their workers’ compensation coverage?

The Mississippi Workers’ Compensation system and laws are completely separate from the Federal Workers’ Compensation system. If a federal employee is injured, he/she has no choice. The federal system will be used to cover and handle any disputes related to the injury. Non federal injuries will always be ruled by the Mississippi Commission. These separate systems do not overlap. It’s one or the other.

Have a great day!
