What Should You Do If Injured At Work In Mississippi?  How to Protect Your Rights

If you are injured at work in Mississippi, do you know what steps to take to protect your rights?  Here are the basics:

First, you should make sure you notify your direct supervisor of the work injury.  Make sure it is documented in writing.  Second, make sure you keep your employer informed of your work status as advised by your doctor.  Obtain written work status reports from your doctor at every visit.  Third, make sure your contact information is up to date with the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation commission  Fourth, if your doctor says you can go back to work, even if with restrictions, you should try to go back to work.  If your employer won’t take you back, look for new work and document your search.  Finally, only treat with your approved doctor and any doctors or specialists your doctor sends you to for treatment.

If you have an attorney, they should help you with the above.  If you do not have an attorney, doing the above will make your attorney’s job easier should you decide to hire one.
