Trust Your Attorney….Unless You Can’t

We recently received a call from a potential workers’ comp client who had fired her lawyer. She fired her lawyer because she had lost trust in him. But why? Was it because he was a bad lawyer? Was he neglecting her case? Was he not fighting for her? The answer to all of these questions was “no”. This potential client had over 500 pages of records related to her case. I agreed to review them. After a thorough review I determined that her attorney had actually done a stellar job. From all appearances he did everything right, so what happened?
The only thing this attorney did wrong was to not properly communicate with the client. Because she did not understand what was happening in her case, she lost trust and let him go. I have been practicing law in Mississippi for over 20 years. I know lots of lawyers. The overwhelming majority of these lawyers are good at what they do and most importantly, are good people. As in any profession, there are a few bad apples. Certainly, you should avoid those. When hiring a lawyer, make sure you discuss how communications will work and that you are comfortable with the arrangement.
At Rundlett Law Firm, we understand the importance of keeping our clients informed. We have full time staff members whose job is to do just that. We speak to our clients on a weekly basis to make sure they know what is going on with their case. We strive to reduce the anxieties that are certain to follow a work related injury.
